Control your spending before it controls you! The key to affording your Prom is to create a spending budget (and, believe it or not, budgeting is great practice for life!). It may be a headache at the start, but setting your spending beforehand will save you time (and money!) in the end.
To start, divide your expenses into categories - such as food, decorations, and music. You can then subdivide these main categories to fit your needs. For each category determine your projected spending and look at the total in light of your available funds. Over budget? Either cut corners on the least important items, or increase your fundraising efforts to meet your bills.
To help you, we've compiled a sample budget and budget planner below where you can plug in your own figures. This way you can determine how much you'll need to charge for tickets and what kind of fundraising you have in store!
Work through this planner with your Prom committee until you find a reasonable, balanced budget - then vow to stick with it!
